REGULAR MEETING
<br />NOVEMBER 13, 1973
<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 10:30 a.m. on
<br />Tuesday, November 13, 1973 with all members present. City Attorney James A.
<br />Roemer was also present. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and
<br />approved.
<br />VT ENTERPRISES PROPOSAL TO FURNISH TRASH: -RECEPTACLES
<br />The Board received a letter from VT Enterprises, Inc. requesting that the Board
<br />sign a contract with them for furnishing trash receptacles. Mr. Farrand said
<br />that the contract submitted had been taken under advisement, since the City
<br />does have a contract with Panel -Ads and is not dissatisfied with the present
<br />supplier. Mr. Barcome stated that, with the new trash program, the City is
<br />not in a position to enter into this contract. He said the City might, at some
<br />later date, want to enter into contracts with both suppliers. Mr. Seitz noted
<br />that the receptacles would be too small for use in the parks. Upon motion made,
<br />seconded and carried, the Board tabled the request from VT Enterprises.
<br />AWARDING OF BID - LIQUID CALCIUM CHLORIDE
<br />The Board received a recommendation from Donald Decker, Manager, Bureau of
<br />Streets, that the bid for liquid calcium chloride be awarded to the Dow
<br />Chemical Company on their low bid of $10,690.00 for .100,000 gallons. Upon
<br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the recommendation and
<br />awarded the contract to the Dow Chemical Company.
<br />FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3384, 1973
<br />Rollin E. Farrand, City Engineer, files an Assessment Roll showing the award of
<br />damages and the assessment of benefits in Vacation Resolution No. 3384, 1973 for
<br />the vacation of the portion of the north -south alley between St. Peter Street
<br />and Notre Dame Street which extends from the south line of the Grand Trunk
<br />Western Railroad Company right-of-way to the north line of the Grand Trunk
<br />Western Railroad Company right-of-way,
<br />Also the portion of the north -south alley between St. Louis Street and St.
<br />Peter Street which lies between the south line of the Grand Trunk Western
<br />Railroad Company right-of-way and the south line of the first east -west alley
<br />south of Wayne Street.
<br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such
<br />vacation: Lots 267, 268, the north portion of Lot 269, 273, 274, the north
<br />portion of Lot 275, 339, 340, 345 and 346 in Samuel L. Cottrell's first
<br />addition to the Town of Lowell, now within and a part of the City of South Bend.

<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board adopted said Assessment
<br />Roll and set December 17, 1973 at 9:30 a.m., 1308 County City Building, South
<br />Bend, Indiana as the date and place for hearing all persons interested in
<br />or affected by such vacation.

<br />for the vacation of a portion of Kerr Street, beginning at the west right-of-way
<br />line of Catalpa Street and the north right-of-way line of Kerr Street, thence
<br />west to the western end of Kerr Street, thence 50' south to the south right-of-
<br />way of Kerr Street, thence east to a point 50' south of point of beginning,
<br />thence 50' north to the point of beginning.
<br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such
<br />vacation: Part of the West i of the N.E. 4, Sec. 14, T37N, R2E, beginning
<br />at the intersection of the south line of Sample Street with the west line
<br />of Catalpa, thence West 200 feet, thence south 298.9 feet, thence East 220 feet,
<br />thence North 298.9 feet. Also, part of the West i of the N.E. 4 and the East
<br />i of the N.W. 4, Sec. 14, T37N, R2E, beginning on the south line of Sample Street
<br />220 feet west of the West line of Catalpa Street, thence South 591.69'' feet, thence
<br />west 361.51'-z feet, thence north 591.69' feet, thence east 361.512 feet. Also,
<br />Parcel No. 5 and the West i of the alley lying east of and adjacent to Parcel
<br />No. 5 between Garst and Kerr Streets in the Innerbelt Industrial Park.
