REGULAR MEETING APRIL 30, 1973
REQUEST - MICHIANA WALK FOR DEVELOPMENT
The Board received a request from Cindy Remke and Ginger Smigielski, dated
April 28, .1973, asking for permission to hold the Michiana Walk for Development
on May 5, 1973. Mr. Richardson explained that because of the coordination of
planning necessary between the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police
Department, three weeks notice is usually required for requests of this kind.
Mr. Clem Hazinski was called into the meeting and he told the Board that it will
be difficult to make arrangements for this walk because of the shortage of
manpower on the Police Department and because there is so little time. Don
Germann, Civil Defense Director, recommended to the Board that there be a
20 mile limit set on all Walks and that they be held between the hoursof
8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The spokesmen for the Walk said that it would be
very difficult for them to cut five miles from the walk route and that they
had contacted volunteers from the Citizens Band Emergency Patrol to assist them.
It was the feeling of the Board that they would have to set up definite rules
and regulations for approval of all such walks and marches in the future and
that they might request that young people participate in clean-up programs
rather than Walkathons. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board
gave contingent approval for the Walk, based upon full coordination with Mr.
Hazinski and Captain Sweitzer, that the route be cut to 20 miles and a cut-off
time of 4:00 p.m, be adhered to.
LETTER REGARDING TRAFFIC AND DRAINAGE HAZARD AT 3602 E. The letter also referred to a curbing problem in the 1200
and 1300 blocks of South Twyckenham. Upon motion made, seconded and carried,
the matter was referred to the Division of Engineering for investigation and
report.
MEMO FROM BUREAU OF TRAFFIC AND LIGHTING RE: BUS ZONES
The Board received the following memo:
April 26, 1973
To: Board of Works
From: Bureau of Traffic & Lighting, Clem Hazinski, Manager
Subject: Bus Zones
The re-routing of city buses from Michigan to both St. Joseph and
Main Streets entails abandonment -of some bus zones.
In order to provide for pick-up of passengers it is recommended that:
1.
