I Z' <br />REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 1974 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:30 <br />a.m, on Monday, November 25, 1974 with all members present. Deputy <br />City Attorney Kathleen Cekanski was also present. Minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />ACKNOWLEDGEMENT RECEIVED - FAMILY OF J. EMMETT MILLER <br />The Board received an acknowledgement of thanks from the family of <br />J. Emmett Miller, Mayor Miller's father, for the expression of <br />sympathy received. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3406, 1974 <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. <br />3406, 1974 for the vacation of Sunnymede Avenue from the west <br />right-of-way line of 35th Street to the west line of Lots 7 and 18 of <br />Jerome First Addition to the City of South Bend as amended. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />Mr. James Groves, Attorney for the petitioner, the Whitmore Corpor- <br />ation, was present and said he would answer any questions. He said <br />the vacation is being,requgsted.as part of a rezoning proposal which <br />will be presented to the Area Plan Commission in the near future. <br />No remonstrators having appeared and no written reponstrances having <br />been filed, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />ratified and confirmed Vacation Resolution No. 3406 and said portion <br />of Sunnymede Avenue is vacated. <br />The City'Engineer is directed to prepare an assessment roll showing <br />the award of damages and the assessment of benefits to the surrounding <br />properties. <br />RECEIPT OF LETTER - ZUCKERBERG UNIFORM COMPANY <br />The Board received a letter from the Zuckerburg Uniform Company. It <br />was received on Wednesday, November 20 and was not marked "Sealed Bid". <br />The letter was opened and it indicated that the company was not <br />submitting a bid on Bureau of Fire Uniforms for next year. <br />RECOMMENDATION RE: PETITION TO VACATE A PORTION OF COLFAX AVENUE <br />AND A NORTH -SOUTH ALLEY <br />The Board received a recommendation from the Area Plan Commission <br />in regard to the petition of the O'Brien Corporation to vacate <br />Colfax Avenue from Jackson Street west to the first north -south alley <br />and the north -south alley from Orange Street to Washington between <br />Brookfield and Jackson. The Area Plan Commission held a hearing on <br />the petition and recommended the vacation favorably to the Board. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the recommendation was ordered <br />filed and the petition was referred to the Division of Engineering <br />for preparation of the Vacation Resolution. <br />RECOMMENDATION RE: PETITION TO VACATE THE ALLEY BETWEEN ST. LOUIS AND <br />ST. PETER STREET. <br />The Board received a recommendation from the Area Plan Commission in <br />regard to the petition of St. Joseph Hospital to vacate the north - <br />south alley east of St. Louis, running south from Madison to the <br />first cross alley. The ARea Plan Commission held a hearing on the <br />petition and recommended the vacation favorably to the Board. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the recommendation was ordered <br />filed and the petition was referred to the Division of Engineering for <br />preparation of the Vacation Resolution. <br />
