1_4 , REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 9, 1974 FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3381, 1974 BERKLEY PLACE-INGLEWOOD PLACE ALLEY IMPROVEMENT The final assessment and the Assessment Roll for the improvement of the alley bounded by Berkley Place and Inglewood Place, authorized under Improvement Resolution No. 3381, was filed with the Board. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Assessment Roll was ordered filed and the Clerk was directed to advertise for a public hearing on the Assessment Roll, to be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 1974. RICK VENDL RE: REQUEST TO NAME RACING CAR Rick Vendl was present and displayed to the Board a drawing of his race car which he would like to name "Challenge of South Bend", Mr. Vendl will be touring the country with the car next year. The Board acknowledged the fact that Mr. Vendl is using the name South Bend and stated they have no objections to this use, for publicity purposes, with the understanding that the City is in'no way sponsoring the car. RECOMMENDATION - IRELAND-IRONWOOD SIDEWALK INSTALLATION The Board received a recommendation from Patrick McMahon, Manager, Bureau of Public Construction, that he had reviewed a proposed sidewalk installation at Ireland and Ironwood. Mr. Farrand explained that this was included in the Howell contract, but because of the problems with Howell, it was decided to eliminate the work from that contract and award a contract for the work. Mr. McMahon recommended to the Board that the unit price of $7.00 per sq. yd. as submitted by McIntyre and Jones, was consistent with previous unit prices quoted the City and he recommended that the Board award a contract to McIntyre and Jones. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the recommendation was approved. SIGNING OF CONTRACT - IRELAND-IRONWOOD SIDEWALK The contract with McIntyre and Jones for installation of sidewalks at the intersection of Ireland and Ironwood was submitted to the Board. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the contract was signed. The Performance Bond submitted with the contract was ordered filed. APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION FOR WARNING FLASHERS AT SCHOOLS The Board received the following recommendation from Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting,: Signs with the message "25 MPH When Childrenl Present" have been installed at the approaches to school crossings especially on State highways. At highly travelled locations these signs should be supplemented with flashers and time clocks. Such flasher installation must be approved by the Indiana State Highway Commission. It is requested that the Board of Works write a letter to the Indiana State Highway Commission, LaPorte, Indiana, asking, permission for installation at the following locations: 1. Eddy Street (SR23) Perley School West Side of Eddy, 157 ft. north of,Campeau East side of Eddy, 126 2. Eddy Street (SR23) Jefferson School West side of Eddy, 115 ft. south of E. Wayne Street East side of Eggy, 296 ft. south of E. South Street 3. McKinley (US20) McKinley School North side, 214 ft. west of Ironwood Drive South side, 127 feet east of Esther Street 1 1
