<br />UTILITY AGREEMENTS - BENDIX DRIVE INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS
<br />Agreements with the Water Works, Indiana Bell Telephone Company,
<br />Indiana & Michigan Electric Company and the Northern Indiana Public
<br />Service Company for the intersection improvements at Lincolnway
<br />West and Ardmore Trail with Bendix Drive were submitted to the Board.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the agreements were approved.
<br />TRASH GUARD CONTAINERS
<br />Pictures of "Trash Guard" containers were presented to the Board. The
<br />representative who handles the containers had asked for the Board's
<br />opinion of the containers. Members of the Board raised several
<br />questions, such as, who the containers will be distributed, whether
<br />individual homeowners will be contacted, and whether they will be
<br />limited to alley locations. Upon motion made, seconded and carried,
<br />the Board directed that a letter be send to Andy Anderson, Sales
<br />Representative, raising these questions and asking for more informa-
<br />tion regarding distribution of the containers in South Bend.
<br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR SOUTH BEND DAM REPAIR APPROVED
<br />Patrick McMahon, Manager, Bureau of Public Construction, reported to
<br />the Board that Lawson Associates has completed their recommendation
<br />for repairs to the South Bend dam and are preparing a final engineering
<br />estimate which will be under the $210,000 budgeted. Mr. McMahon,.
<br />asked the Board to advertise for bids for the dam repairs, with bids
<br />to be received on September 23. Upon motion made, seconded and
<br />carried, the Board approved the request and directed the Clerk to
<br />advertise on September 6 and 13, with bids to be opened at 9:30 a.m.
<br />on Monday, September 23, 1974.
<br />REQUEST TO PARK BUSES ON RIVER BEND PLAZA APPROVED
<br />The Board received a request from Louis Wilcox, Director of River
<br />Bend Plaza, to park two buses on the Supergraphic area in front of
<br />Wyman's on Saturday, September 7. The buses will be bringing Notre
<br />Dame students to the Plaza for a tour. Upon motion made, seconded
<br />and carried, the request was approved.
<br />APPLICATION FOR RIVER BEND PLAZA - BOBBY BETHANY
<br />The Board had under review an application for a booth on the River
<br />Bend Plaza from Bobby Bethany. Kathleen Cekanski, Deputy City
<br />Attorney, informed the Boad that, under the R-66 program which
<br />governs the renewal area, a Development Review Committee has been
<br />set up. This Committee has final approval over all structures in
<br />the downtown renewal area. She recommended that this application be
<br />referred to the Development Review Committee for their recommendation.
<br />She also recommended that a letter be sent to Mr. Bethany to ask him
<br />to submit architectural plans for his proposed structure. Upon
<br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the application
<br />of Bobby Bethany to the Development Review Committee for their
<br />review and a recommendation to the Board and directed that Mr. Bethany
<br />be asked to submit plans forthe structure.
<br />APPLICATIONS APPROVED - RIVER BEND PLAZA
<br />Applications which were approved by Louis Wilcox, Plaza Director,
<br />were submitted to the Board. They included the Beta Delta Sorority,
<br />for the sale of craft items; the Bicentennial Committee, for the sale
<br />of bumper plates; C. E. Lee Company, display only; Armstrong Cork
<br />Company, display only; and the Northern Indiana Historical Society,
<br />display only. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the above
<br />applications were approved.
<br />APPLICATION RECEIVED - REV. HENRY UNDERWOOD
<br />The Board received an application from Rev. Henry Underwood to conduct
<br />services on River Bend Plaza during September and October. Kathleen
<br />Cekanski, Deputy City Attorney, recommended that a letter be sent
<br />to Rev. Underwood asking him the purpose of his activities on the
<br />Plaza and asking that he attend a meeting of the Board to answer
<br />questions, so moved, seconded and carried.
