REGULAR MEETING
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT FILED
FEBRUARY 25, 1974
The Street Light Outage Report for the period of February 12 through February
15, 1974 was received and ordered filed.
MRS. GLENN EASH RE: HEAD START CENTER
Mrs. Glenn Eash, 1809 Kemble Avenue, was present and spoke to the Board
about the proposed Head Start Mobile Classroom to be located at the Armory
Property, 1901 S. Kemble Avenue. The installation was approved by the Board
on November 13, 1973. Mrs. Eash said neighbors were not aware that this site
was being considered. She said helicopters land there twice a day and there
would be a danger to the children. She said there is no sewer on Bruce Street
for a hook-up to the classroom. She said snow removal would be a problem.
She said children would be bused to this classroom from the Harrison School area
and residents do not believe children should be bused so far out of their own
neighborhood. Mr. Barcome suggested that Mrs. Eash attend the next meeting of
Action, Inc. and make her views known to them. He said the Board was not aware
of any helicopter landings at the site when they were asked to approve the
installation. He then made a motion that the matter be referred to Forrest West,
Building Commissioner, with the request that he check into the matter and
report to the Board. The motion was seconded and carried.
CHANGE ORDER - TOPICS PROJECT T6000(11) MICHIGAN ST.-MAIN ST. SIGNALIZATION
A Change Order for Topics Project T6000(11), the Michigan Street -Main Street
Signalization Project, was presented to the Board. The Change Order adds the
intersection of Oakside and Michigan to the contract and is an increase of
$13,109.90. Mr. Farrand explained that a previous Change Order had been approved
for the intersections of Oakside and Michigan and Farneman and Michigan. The
Engineering Department has now taken another look at the Farneman installation
and has decided to hold it in abeyance, pending the possibility of extending
Donmoyer Street. The previously approved Change Order will be negated.
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Change Order approving the
installation of the Oakside-Michigan intersection was approved.
REQUEST FOR SIGNS "DEAF CHILD IN BLOCK" ON SHENANDOAH DRIVE
The Board received a request to post signs "Deaf Child in Block" on Shenandoah
Drive in Carriage Hills Estates. It was the feeling of the Board that this
area is outside the City of South Bend. The Board directed that the address be
checked and the letter forwarded to the County Highway Engineer for action.
There being no further business to come before the Board, upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
ATTE
CLERK
1
LJ
