224 <br />REGULAR-MEETIITG <br />MARCH 21, 1977 <br />R regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m, on Monday, March 21, 1977 by President Patrick 11. McMahon <br />with Mr. McMahon, Mr. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. Deputy City <br />Attorney Georgia Luks was also present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED ` <br />Mr. Brunner reported that he had reviewed the minutes of the March <br />14 meeting and tie made a motion that the minutes b'e approved as <br />submitted. Mr. -Mull -en seconded the motion and it carried. <br />REQUEST OF UNIFICATION CHURCH TO SOLICIT FUNDS CONTINUED <br />The Board had tabled a request of the Holy Spirit Association for <br />the Unification of World Christianity to solicit funds on the public <br />streets and sidewalks until this date to ailoi-.7 tit_ie fo'r the Legal <br />Department to prepare guidelines for such activities. Deputy City <br />Attorney Georgia Luks advised the Board that she has written James <br />Miller, ✓ Attorney for the church, requesting additional information <br />and asking that they forward certified financial statements, includ- <br />ing balance sheets and':income statements, to show that the purpose of <br />the solicitation is for the support of its system of worship and to <br />maintain the places of worship. Mrs. Luks said she had been advised <br />by Mr. Miller that this information could not be submitted by today <br />and she suggested that the matter be continued. Mr. Brunner'r_iade <br />a notion that the matter be continued until the requested information <br />is received. Mr. Mullen seconded the motion and it carried. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - STREET MATERIALS <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for Street Materials for <br />1977. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the <br />South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be <br />sufficient. The following bids were opened and publicly read: <br />Bituminous Materials Co., Inc. Bid was signed by Philip Ehrnan, <br />Warsaw, Indiana non -collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 1070 bid bond was <br />submitted. <br />Bid - 600,000 gallons emulsified asphalt .3323 - $199,440.00 <br />The Levy Cotipany, Inc. Bid was signed by Richard Marrese, <br />Chesterton, Indiana non -collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 10% bid bond was <br />submitted. <br />Bid - 15,000 Tons MIN. Aggregate #2 stone or slag <br />@ $4.35 - $65,250.00 <br />5,000 Tons C. Aggregate #73 @ $4.25 - $21,250.00 <br />2,000 Tons Crse. Aggregate @ $3.6,5 - $ 7,300.00 <br />St. Joseph Materials Co. Bid was signed by Ricliar.d Marrese, <br />South Bend, Indiana non -collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 101/0 bid bond was <br />submitted. <br />Bid - 8,000 Tons Coarse Aggregate #9 @ $2.00 - $16,000.00 <br />2,OOO Tons Fine Aggregate #14-2 Sand @ $1.35 - $2,700.00 <br />Emulsified Asphalts, Inc. Bid was signed by David 11. Yates, <br />Chicato, Illinois non -collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 10% bid bond was <br />submitted. <br />Bid - 600,000 gallons emulsified asphalt - $199,380.00 <br />
