REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 10, 1977 the Citizen and the Cable Proje-pt. Pis .Bender said they. appreciate the opportunity to be heard and to help publicize this ill -understood service`:to the community. She noted that there are 30,000 homes with cable television in the community. She said her group is interested in exploring the potential of the service as it relates to the citizens. They look forward to increased citizen participation in cable, with people made aware of citizen access to cable television for information exchange. She said eighteen community leaders ands educators, including two representatives from Valley Cablevision, have worked on the Citizen and the Cable Project. Possibilities being explored are a mini -network which would air videotapes, such as Chamber of Coruierce status reports or tapes of public meetings such as this one. They also envision information for the elderly and the handicapped and a possible citizens advisory group. Ms. Bender said her group looks forward to expanded cable programming with the new owners The following resolution, which Baas. reviewed and approved by the Legal Department, was executed by the Board. RE, SOLUTIOIT OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, I14DIAIIA W11EREAS, heretofore on the 22nd day of August, 1966, the Board of Public. Z-lorks and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana entered into a CATV Franchise agreement whereby Valley Cablevision Corporation was granted the right to construct, operate and maintain a community antenna television system in the City of South Bend; and WHEREAS, Section VII of said CATV Franchise agreement provides as follows: "This franchise and grant may not be assigned without the express and prior written consent of the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend." W11EREAS, the owners of all of the issued and outstanding stock of Valley Cablevision Corporation, to -wit: Schurz Communications, Inc., Truth Publishing Company, Inc. and Michiana Telecasting Corporation have entered into an agreement with Indiana Cablevision Corporation; and WHEREAS, said agreement further provides that upon the consummation of said sale, Valley Cablevision Corporation will be merged into Indiana Cablevision Corporation; and WHEREAS, Schurz Communications, Inc., Truth Publishing Company, Inc. and Michiana Telecasting Corp. have requested approval of the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend to the sale and transfer of said stock and the transfer by Valley.Cablevision Corporation to Indiana Cablevision Corporation of all of its rights under the aforementioned CATV Franchise agreement that will result by reason of the merger of Valley Cablevision Corporation into Indiana Cablevision Corporation. NOW, TIIEP.EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, that approval is hereby granted to the transfer by Schurz Communications, Inc., Truth Publishing Company, Inc. and Michiana!Telecasting Corp. to Indiana Cablevision Corporation of all of the issued and outstanding stock of Valley Cablevision Corporation to Indiana Cablevision Corporation of all of its rights to construct operate and maintain a community antenna television system in the City
