d $':
SPECIAL PEETING
DECEtIBER 13, 197E
A special meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened by
President Rollin E.. Farrand at 10:55 a.n. on Monday, December 13
with Mr. Farrand and Mr. Mullen present. Also in attendance
were Fire Chief Oscar Van Wiele and Deputy City Attorney Georgia
Luks.
Mr. Farrand reported that the purpose of'the special meeting was
to discuss the evaluation .of the bids received for Fire Department
hose. The Board has reviewed the bids with the Fire Department as
subrlitted and notes that -there is insufficient data to evaluate the
two bidders who took exception to the specifications for bilateral
hose. It has been determined that the bids should be rejected and
new bids advertised, with bid opening on December 27. The Board
intends to change the specifications to include the term "bilateral
hose or equivalent". The specifications are also to state that anyone
who submits a bid must also submit underwriter's laboratory test
results or third party equivalent test results to the Board with
their bid and must identify for the Board Fire Departrients who are
using this hose within a two hundred mile radius of South Bend.
The specifications are also to state that the Board reserves the
right to accept individually any one of the three classes of hose
bid without accepting the entire bid without an adjustment in the
bid price. All bidders will be required to submit a twelve -inch
sanple with their bid. Mr. Farrand made a motion that the Board
reject all bids received for fire hose and readvertise for bids in
accordance with the specification changes discussed above. Mr.
Pullen seconded the motion and it carried.
There being no further business to come before the special meeting,
upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Mullen and
carried, the special r_ieeting adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
1
ATTEST:
Patricia DeClercq, Cler:
1
Rollin E.
