1 REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 25, 1976 CURB RECONSTRUCTION ON KALEI_.S.TREET APPROVED Mr. Farrand noted that a curb reconstruction project on Kaley Street, south of Western Avenue, was- proposed and it was thought it could be done by the Department of Public Works. Some street was removed along with top soil but the area is muck and it has not been possible to complete preparation for the construction. Because it is so late in the year, Mr. Farrand said he was requesting that the Board invoke its emergency powers to let a contract for curb, sidewalk and approach work on Kaley Street. Community Development funds will be used for the project. HUD was contacted and they indicate that if the Board notifies all contractors who have done thivs type -of work for the City in the past two gears and request a proposal for the project, they will go along. -The four contractors used in the past are Rieth Riley Construction Company, Batteast Construction Company, McIntyre and Jones Construction Company, and Ziolkowski Construction Company. The area involved is the two blocks of Kaley Street, South of Western. Avenue, and the project was initiated because the street is sinking°, there are water ponds, basements in the area flood and the sidewalk is:°under water at times. Mr. Farrand said total cost of the project will be between eight and ten thousand dollars. Mr. Farrand made a motion that the Board declare an emergency situation exists and authorize the Department of Public Works to notify each contractor of the project and request that they submit sealed proposals. The Board will call a special meeting of the Board to open the proposals. Mr. Mullen seconded the motion and it carried.
