M <br />REGULAR 11MET ING <br />OCTOBER 25, 1976 <br />A regular_ meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.n. on Mondav, October 25th, 1976 by President Rollin E. <br />Farrand, with Mr. Farrand, Mr. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS.11EETING APPROVED <br />Tor. Farrand noted that the minutes of the October 18th meeting <br />had been reviewed and he made a motion that the minutes be <br />approved as submitted. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and <br />it carried. <br />USE OF FIRE STATIONS ON ELECTION DAY APPROVED <br />The Board received a request for the use of Fire Stations <br />#2, #7, #9, #3, #6, #5 and #10 for voting purposes on General <br />Election Day, November 2, 1976. Included in the letter was <br />a request to use the Potowatomi Greenhouse. Mr. Farrand noted <br />that this use would require approval of the Park Department and <br />he directed that the Clerk forward that request to Mr. Seitz. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and <br />carried, the Board approved the request to use the Fire Stations <br />listed above as polling places on Election Day, November 2, 1976.. <br />PAYMENT SU1R7ARY FOR CENTURY CENTER FILED <br />Patrick 11. McMahon, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, <br />submitted to the Board payment summaries..f_or claims paid for <br />Century Center for the months of July and August. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the <br />payment sur_.uaries were filed. <br />REPORT FROM AREA PLAN C0MISSION RE: PETITION TO VACATE A <br />PORTION OF PARALLEL STREET <br />The Board received a report from the Area Plan Commission that <br />a review and public hearing were held on the petition of G & N <br />Warehousing and Packaging Company to vacate a portion of Parallel <br />Street. The Area Plan Commission recommended that the petition <br />be amended to read "the vacation of a portion of Parallel Street <br />from the east -right-of-way line of Jackson Street to the west <br />right-of-way line of College Street. The petitioner agreed to <br />the amendment.. Mr. Farrand noted that this amendment was made at <br />the request of Conrail representatives. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the report was <br />ordered filed and the petition was referred to the Department of <br />Engineering for preparation of the vacation resolution. <br />REQUEST FOR STREET LIGHT FILED <br />The Board received a request from Mrs. Jean Mattheti7s, 218 S. St. <br />Peter Street, for the installation of a street light in the 200 <br />block South St. Peter Street. Mr. Farrand made a notion that <br />the request be filed and referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting for review and.recommendation. Mr. Mullen seconded the. <br />motion and it carried. Mr.. Farrand was asked if the City policy <br />of holding all new installation requests was still in effect. <br />Mr. Farrand e«plained that because the I & 11 rate increase did <br />not go into effect in 1976, there were some funds available for <br />installations and they were taken from the chronological list <br />compiled by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Mr. Brunner <br />asked if the date of the request was the criteria used in determinfhg <br />which installations to approve. Mr. Farrand said the date of the <br />request and a field.investigation of the area is made regarding <br />the need for a light. Installations are then made based on those <br />factors. He said many requests are received for mid -block lights, <br />particularly where the blocks are long. Mr. Brunner asked if <br />the crime rate in a neighborhood was a consideration and Mr. <br />Farrand said most mid -block lights are in response to the area <br />crime statistics. <br />y�� <br />
