D114ve MAY 17, 1982 0 7 REGULAR MEETING The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:30 a.m., on Monday, May 17, 1982, by President John E. Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. Hill and Mr. Joseph E. Kernan present. Also present was Assistant City Attorney Eugenia Schwartz. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the minutes of the May 10, 1982, regular meeting of the Board were approved as submitted. OPENING OF BIDS -RADIUS IMPROVEMENTS (NORTHWEST CORNER CHAPIN AND WESTERN) This was the date set for receiving and opening sealed bids for the construction of radius improvements at the northwest corner of Chapin and Western. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened and publicly read: Rieth-Riley Construction Bid was signed by Richard D. Ruhlman, P. 0. Box 1775 non -collusion affidavit was in order, South Bend, Ind. 46634 and a 5% bid bond was submitted. $19,577.75 Arco Engineering Construction Bid was signed by William Zirkle, 705 S. Beiger Street non -collusion affidavit was in order, Mishawaka, Ind. 46544 and a 5% bid bond was submitted. $24,804.00 Ziolkowski Construction, Inc. Bid was signed by Ben Ziolkowski, 1005 S. Lafayette non -collusion affidavit was in order, South Bend, Ind. and a 5% bid bond was submitted. $17,191.75 LaFree Excavating, Inc. 11252 West Third St. Osceola, Ind. 46561 $15,772.35 Murdock & Sons Construction 1320 S. Franklin St. South Bend, Ind. 46618 $18,846.05 Bid was signed by Richard LaFree, non -collusion affidavit was in order, and a 5% bid bond was submitted. Bid was signed by Calvin Murdock, non -collusion affidavit was in order, and a 5% bid bond was submitted. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above bids were referred to the Engineering Department for review and recommendation. APPROVE CHANGE ORDERS AND CERTIFICATE OF SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION - FIRST BANK PROJECT Mr. Leszczynski advised that numerous change orders, which had been reviewed by the construction manager, architect and Patrick McMahon for the First Bank Center Project, were being submitted to the Board for approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the following change orders and certificate of substantial completion were approved Hunzikers, Inc. - Contract No. 125A, Exterior Landscaping Addition of $18,490.00 for installation of slag stone in various locations, additional plantings, timber retaining wall and additional sod and netting (Change Order No. 1). Revised contract amount: $107,226.00
