247 C 4 REGULAR MEETING MARCH 29, 1982 AWARD BIDS - TRUCK CHASSIS AND MAINTENANCE GRADER (STREET DEPARTMENT Mr. Sean Watt, Director of the Division of Transportation, recommended that the Board award the bid of Western International in the amount of $109,518.00 for three tandem axle truck chassis and in the amount of $58,268.00 for two single axle truck chassis, including trades, as the low bid meeting specifications. Mr. Trutt also recommended that the Board award the bid of Reid -Holcomb, Inc. for the mainten- ance grader, in the amount of $31,950.00, including trades. It was noted that the bid of Reid -Holcomb was not the low bid; however, the bid of Tractor Equipment for the 850 Model Huber grader did not meet specifications in that the grader was not a current model and did not meet engine requirements. Mr. Leszczynski stated that bids for the above equipment for the Street Department had been received and opened by the Board on March 22, 1982. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above bids as recommended by Mr. Watt were awarded. AWARD BIDS - PARK DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ray Nemeth, Assistant Park Depart- ment Superintendent, had reviewed the bids received on March 22, 1982, for various lawn equipment, vans and a pick-up truck and was recommending that the following bids be awarded: Tom Wood Pontiac GMC 1 1982 3/4 Ton Van (with trade) $ 9,241.28 1 1982 1/2 Ton Van (with trade) 6,836.51 Town & Country Gates 1 1982 1/2 Ton 4-Wheel Drive Pick -Up Truck 9,039.07 (with trade) Stan & Ted's Lawnmower Shop 2 1982 Wheel Horse Model C-195 Riding Power Mowers (with trades) 6,600.00 Avenue Lawn & Garden, Inc. 2 1982 Bob Cat Rotary Mowers (with trades) 13,190.00 Summit Power Equipment Distributors 2 1982 Cushman 3-Wheel Turf Runabout (with trade) 7,823.46 1 1982 Greensaver Aerator Attachment 1,259.20 Illinois Lawn & Equipment 2 1982 Jacobsen Greens King IV Mowers (with trades) 14,539.80 1 1982 Cushman 3-Wheel Turf Truckster (with trade) 4,806.00 1 1982 Jacobsen Model 40 Blower 2,623.90 1 1982 Jacobsen Model 548-100 Seeder and attachment 3,981.00 1 1982 Jacobsen 7 Gang Mower (with trade) 7,449.60 Mr. James Seitz, Park Superintendent, explained that in all cases, except for the bid of Illinois Lawn and Equipment for the 1982 Jacobsen Greens King Mowers and the 1982 Jacobsen 7 Gang Mower, he was recommending the Board award the low bids. He further explained that the bid of Illinois Lawn and Equipment in the amount of $14,539.80 for the Jacobsen Greens King Mowers was $139.80 more than the bid of Summit Power Equipment for the Toro Greensmaster Mowers ($14,400.00); however, the maintenance people at the golf courses were not satisfied with the Toro Mowers because of problems experienced in the past with thatch build-up, the fact that only eight blades were available on the mower, and the height of the blades could not be set low enough to cut the greens. Mr. Seitz went on to explain that the bid of Illinois Lawn and Equipment in the amount of $7,449.60 for the Jacobsen 7 Gang Mower was also higher than the low bid of Roseman Tractor Sales by $921.60 for a Roseman 7 Gang Mower ($6,528.00)
