349 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 4, 1984 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:35 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 1984, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. Hill and Mr. <br />Michael L. Vance present. Also present was Assistant City Attorney <br />Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. <br />AGENDA ITEMS ADDED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the Lease Purchase Agreements for Clay Utilities, Inc. <br />Waterworks Facilities and Sewage Disposal Facilities and one (1) <br />traffic control device were added to the agenda. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, <br />the minutes of the August 27, 1984, regular meeting of the Board <br />were approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - FIFTY-FIVE (55) SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING <br />APPARATUS UNITS FOR THE SOUTH BEND FIRE. DEPARTMENT <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed bids for <br />the above referred to equipment. The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were <br />opened and publicly read: <br />BREATHING AIR SYSTEMS Bid was signed by William E. McBride, <br />8855 East Broad Street, R.R. #1 President, Non -Collusion Affidavit <br />Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068 was in order and a Certified Check <br />in the amount of $5,142.89 was <br />submitted. <br />BID: Fifty -Five (55) Survivair #9842-03 SCBA Units at $935.07 <br />each for a total of $51,428.85. <br />Options: Twenty-five (25) #9161-03 Spare Cylinders at <br />$245.07 each for a total of $6,126.75. <br />Face Mask and Hose Assemblies at $185.07 each <br />Trade -In Allowance - $45.00 each for old units <br />Board Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer advised that the bid submitted <br />by Mine Safety Appliances Company, 600 Penn Center Boulevard, <br />Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is defective as it is not on the proper <br />State Board of Accounts forms as required by state statute and she <br />therefore recommends -that it be rejected. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, Ms. Pfotenhauer's <br />recommendation was accepted and the bid rejected for non-compliance. <br />It was noted that Grumman Emergency Products, Inc. 1723 Seibel Drive, <br />N.E., Roanoke, Virginia, advised that they decline to bid at this <br />time on the above referred to equipment. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the one (1) valid bid received was referred to the Fire <br />Department for review and recommendation. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - 1. WASHINGTON TWO-WAY STREET PROJECT <br />2. LELAND AVENUE SEWER PROJECT <br />3. MONROE PARK PHASE VI PROJECT <br />4. WESTERN AVENUE WALKS & CURBS PROJECT <br />5. HANDICAP RAMPS PROJECT <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed bids for <br />the above referred to projects. The Clerk tendered proofs of pub- <br />lication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News which were found to be sufficient.
