REGULAR MEETING MARCH 25, 1985 <br />SWEARING IN OF NEW BOARD MEMBER - KATHERINE G. BARNARD <br />Mayor Roger O. Parent was present at the meeting to welcome new <br />Board member Katherine G. Barnard. Mayor Parent advised that Ms. <br />Barnard will replace City Attorney Richard L. Hill who served on <br />the Board for over five (5) years. Mayor Parent thanked Mr. Hill <br />for his years of dedicated service to the Board. It was noted <br />that Mr. Hill resigned from the Board in order to devote more time <br />to the work of the City Attorney's office. Mayor Parent appointed <br />as his replacement Katherine G. Barnard who is the Director of the <br />Department of Code Enforcement. Ms. Barnard joined the <br />administration in January of 1980 as the director of neighborhood <br />code enforcement. Since that time she has consolidated difficult <br />operations and is currently the Director of the Department of Code <br />Enforcement which now also includes the operations of the <br />Building Department. Mayor Parent welcomed Ms. Barnard and <br />thanked her for accepting the additional duties as a member of the <br />Board of Public Works. <br />City Clerk Irene K. Gammon was present at the meeting and <br />administered the oath of office to Ms. Barnard, swearing her in as <br />a member of the Board of Public Works. <br />Concurring with the sentiments of Mayor Parent, upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, former <br />Board member Richard L. Hill was commended for his efforts and <br />dedication as a member of the Board of Public Works for the last <br />five (5) years. <br />REGULAR MEETING CONVENED <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:35 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 1985, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Mr. Michael L. Vance and new <br />Board Member Katherine G. Barnard present. Also present was <br />Assistant City Attorney Carolyn V. Pfotenhauer. <br />AGENDA ITEM STRICKEN <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the matter of the Lease between the City, on behalf of <br />the Bureau of Housing and the Board of Park Commissioners was <br />stricken from the agenda as more research on the matter is <br />required. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski, and <br />carried, the minutes of the March 18, 1985, regular meeting of the <br />Board were approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - STREET DEPARTMENT VARIOUS EQUIPMENT: <br />- TWO (2) MECHANICAL SWEEPERS <br />- TWO (2) TANDUM AXLE TRUCKS <br />- TWO (2) SINGLE AXLE TRUCKS <br />ONE (1) FRONT END LOADER <br />TWO (2) ASPHALT DISTRIBUTORS MOUNTED ON NEW CHASSIS <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed bids for <br />the above referred to equipment. The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were <br />opened and publicly read: <br />
