REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 7, 1985 APPROVE REQUEST OF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO CONDUCT ANNUAL "MARCH FOR LIFE" - JANUARY 20, 1985 Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and Captain Edward Friend, Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the request of the Knights of Columbus, submitted to the Board on December 10, 1984, and recommend approval subject to the route submitted with the request being utilized and subject to the marchers remaining on the sidewalk and obeying all traffic laws. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above recommendation was accepted and the request approved. APPROVE REQUEST OF MATHEWS-PURUCKER ANELLA, INC. TO CLOSE PORTION OF COLFAX AVENUE, INSTALL COVERED PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY AND CLOSE ADJOINING ALLEY DURING CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITION TO THE SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE BUILDING Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and Mr. Jack Mathews, Building Commissioner, have reviewed the request of Mathews-Purucker Anella, Inc. submitted to the Board on December 17, 1985 to close the parking lane on Colfax Avenue, install a covered pedestrian walkway and close the alley next to the tribune building for the duration of the construction of a two-story addition to the building. Mr. Wadzinski recommended approval subject to the Indiana Department of Highways granting the necessary approval and permits for the closing of a portion Colfax Avenue, which is a state highway. Mr. Mathews recommended approval subject to the covered pedestrian walkway having inside lighting for night use and safety and additionally recommended that the Fire Department review the structure for accessibility in case of fire at the work site or adjacent buildings. It was further noted that an Occupancy Permit will have to be secured from the Building Department for occupancy of the public rights -of -way. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above recommendations were accepted and the request was approved subject to the stipulations mentioned above. APPROVE HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the following seven (7) handicapped parking permit applications were approved and referred to the Deputy Controllerls office for issuance of permits: Joseph T. Serge, 2135 Riverside, S.B. Henry R. Jackson, 237 N. Wellington, S.B. Robert E. Million, 1805 N. Brookfield, S.B. Mary Adams, 1218 N. Olive, S.B. Omer Otto Roeder, 1420 N. Clay, Mish. Richard D. Carlson, 55165 Berry, S.B. Albert Tompos, 2509 W. Bertrand, S.B. FILING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP OF LOTS REPORT A report from the Department of Code Enforcement indicating a total of thirty-five (35) properties cleaned from December 31, 1984 to January 4, 1985 was submitted. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the report as submitted was filed.
