REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 7, 1985 <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO CONDUCT ANNUAL "MARCH <br />FOR LIFE" - JANUARY 20, 1985 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and Captain Edward Friend, Police <br />Department Traffic Division have reviewed the request of the <br />Knights of Columbus, submitted to the Board on December 10, 1984, <br />and recommend approval subject to the route submitted with the <br />request being utilized and subject to the marchers remaining on <br />the sidewalk and obeying all traffic laws. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above <br />recommendation was accepted and the request approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF MATHEWS-PURUCKER ANELLA, INC. TO CLOSE PORTION <br />OF COLFAX AVENUE, INSTALL COVERED PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY AND CLOSE <br />ADJOINING ALLEY DURING CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITION TO THE SOUTH BEND <br />TRIBUNE BUILDING <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and Mr. Jack Mathews, Building <br />Commissioner, have reviewed the request of Mathews-Purucker <br />Anella, Inc. submitted to the Board on December 17, 1985 to close <br />the parking lane on Colfax Avenue, install a covered pedestrian <br />walkway and close the alley next to the tribune building for the <br />duration of the construction of a two-story addition to the <br />building. Mr. Wadzinski recommended approval subject to the <br />Indiana Department of Highways granting the necessary approval and <br />permits for the closing of a portion Colfax Avenue, which is a <br />state highway. Mr. Mathews recommended approval subject to the <br />covered pedestrian walkway having inside lighting for night use <br />and safety and additionally recommended that the Fire Department <br />review the structure for accessibility in case of fire at the work <br />site or adjacent buildings. It was further noted that an <br />Occupancy Permit will have to be secured from the Building <br />Department for occupancy of the public rights -of -way. Therefore, <br />upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the above recommendations were accepted and the request <br />was approved subject to the stipulations mentioned above. <br />APPROVE HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the following seven (7) handicapped parking permit <br />applications were approved and referred to the Deputy Controllerls <br />office for issuance of permits: <br />Joseph T. Serge, 2135 Riverside, S.B. <br />Henry R. Jackson, 237 N. Wellington, S.B. <br />Robert E. Million, 1805 N. Brookfield, S.B. <br />Mary Adams, 1218 N. Olive, S.B. <br />Omer Otto Roeder, 1420 N. Clay, Mish. <br />Richard D. Carlson, 55165 Berry, S.B. <br />Albert Tompos, 2509 W. Bertrand, S.B. <br />FILING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP OF LOTS REPORT <br />A report from the Department of Code Enforcement indicating a <br />total of thirty-five (35) properties cleaned from December 31, <br />1984 to January 4, 1985 was submitted. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the report as <br />submitted was filed. <br />
