160 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 20. 1986 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:37 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 1986, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski, Ms. Katherine G. Barnard <br />and Mr. Michael L. Vance present. Also present was Chief Deputy <br />City Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />AGENDA ITEM STRICKEN AND NEW ITEMS ADDED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard <br />and carried, the following one (1) item was stricken from the <br />agenda and five (5) new items were added: <br />STRICKEN <br />1. Determination - Construction of Sanitary Sewer Along <br />Riverside Drive and Riverside Place. <br />It was noted that this item was stricken from the <br />agenda at this time due to the fact that an intended <br />meeting with Mr. Leszczynski and Mr. Wayne Werts, 1889 <br />Riverside Drive, to discuss alternatives had not taken <br />place as originally anticipated. <br />ADDED: <br />1. Request to advertise for the receipt of bids - <br />Viridian Drive Improvements Project. <br />2. Change Order No. 4 - Palais Royale Building (Facade <br />and Sidewalk) Project. <br />3. Agreement for Use of Public Right -of -Way for Foot <br />Races & Similar Events - Sunburst Marathon. <br />4. Award bids - Gasoline & Fuel Oil for Calendar Year <br />1986. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the minutes of the May 13, 1986, regular meeting of the <br />Board were approved. <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION - VACATION OF PUBLIC <br />STREETS AND ALLEYS WITHIN AREA OF PROPOSED COVELESKI REGIONAL <br />STADIUM <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this was the date set for the <br />Board's Public Hearing on the proposed vacation of public ways <br />within an area bounded on the South by South Street, on the West <br />by Taylor Street, on the North by Lots 4 and 12 in Vail's <br />South-West Addition (Block 7) and Lots 14-6 and 29 in Block 8 of <br />Vail's Addition with their south property lines projected east <br />and west respectively across Williams and vacated Franklin <br />Street, on the East by the lst alley west of Lafayette and its <br />west side extended south to the south R/W line of Monroe Street <br />then east along said line to the west R/W line of Lafayette <br />Blvd., thence south to the north R/W line of South Street. <br />It was noted that the Public Hearing was being held in order for <br />the Board to submit a recommendation to the Common Council <br />concerning the Vacation Petition filed by the South Bend <br />Redevelopment Commission, 1200 County -City Building and the Board <br />of Park Commissioners of the Park District of the City of South <br />Bend, 301 South St. Louis Blvd., South Bend, Indiana. <br />It was further noted that pursuant to South Bend Municipal Code <br />Section 18-53.8, owners whose property abut the proposed <br />right-of-ways to be vacated were notified of the Board's Public <br />Hearing date. <br />Ms. Ann Kolata, Deputy Director, Department of Economic <br />Development, representing the Petitioner in this matter, was <br />present and requested that the vacation be approved in order that <br />the Stanely Covelelski Regional Stadium Project can go forward. <br />
