It was noted that on June 6, 1988, Katherine Humphreys, Director, Administration and Finance, advised Mr. Smith that his applica- tion for a City of South Bend Precious Metals Dealer license was being denied pursuant to Section 4-16 of the South Bend Municipal Code and is based on the fact that he gave false information on his application form. As Mr. Smith was not present and there was no one else present wishing to speak on this matter, upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the Public Hearing was closed. Further, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the Board affirm Ms. Humphreys' denial of the Precious Metals Dealer license application for Mr. Timothy Smith. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion and it carried. Members of the news media inquired why the license application was originally denied by Ms. Humphreys and were advised that Mr. Smith was not truthful in completing the application form in that he did have a prior conviction for felony burglary which he did not indicate. It was also noted that Mr. Smith has applied for a Secondhand Dealers License. As problems existed with parking at the location of the secondhand store, Mr. Smith has apparently dropped pursuit of that license. 1 LJ 11
