119 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 1, 1989 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:31 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 1989, by Board President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr. Leszczynski and Mrs. Patricia E. DeClercq <br />present. Board member Ms. Katherine Humphreys was not in <br />attendance. Also present was Assistant City Attorney Jenny <br />Pitts-Manier. <br />AGENDA ITEM STRICKEN <br />There being no objections by members of the Board, an Easement <br />Agreement with Indiana and Michigan Power Company was stricken <br />from the agenda. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the minutes of the regular meeting of the Board held <br />on April 24, 1989 were approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - CHEMICALS - BUREAU OF WASTEWATER AND FILING OF <br />APPLICATIONS FOR BIDDER QUALIFICATION <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this was the date set for the <br />receiving and opening of sealed bids for the following: <br />SUPPLY OF CHEMICALS TO BE ORDERED AS NEEDED FOR A <br />PERIOD FROM JUNE 1, 1989 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 1990. ALL <br />ITEMS ARE STATED AS MAXIMUM QUANTITIES, BUT THE BUREAU OF <br />WASTEWATER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ORDER ONLY AMOUNTS <br />NEEDED, WHICH MAY BE LESS. <br />ITEM NO. 1 CHLORINE <br />ITEM NO. 2 FERRIC CHLORIDE <br />ITEM NO. 3 BY-PRODUCT <br />PHOSPHORIC ACID <br />QUANTITY: 370 TONS <br />QUANTITY: 400 TONS @ FeCl3 <br />(158,000 gal. @ FeCl3) <br />QUANTITY: 33,260 gal. @ 35% <br />(175 tons) <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of Notice in the South <br />Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be <br />sufficient. <br />Board Attorney Jenny Pitts-Manier advised that the bid submitted <br />by BPM Industries, Inc., 1150 Junction Avenue, Schererville, <br />Indiana, did not contain bid security. Therefore, Mrs. DeClercq <br />made a motion that the bid be rejected as non -responsive to bid <br />requirements. Mr. Leszczynski seconded the motion which carried. <br />The following bids were read: <br />MIDLAND RESOURCES INC. <br />105 West llth Street <br />Suite A <br />Lawrence, KS 66044 <br />Ms. Barbara Holmes, Marketing Representative, advised that <br />Midland Resources declines to bid at this time. <br />JONES CHEMICALS. INC. <br />600 Bethel Avenue <br />P.O. Box 186 <br />Beech Grove, IN 46107 <br />Mr. Vernon Catt, Branch Manager, Jones Chemicals, Inc. <br />advised that they decline to bid at this time. <br />
