272 <br />L'ETING MAY 16, 1994 <br />REQUEST OF ST. STEPHEN'S PARISH TO CLOSE MC PHERSON STREET, <br />FROM THOMAS TO NAPIER IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANNUAL PARISH <br />FESTIVAL - JULY 31 1994 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that favorable recommendations have been <br />received for the above referred to requests, which were submitted <br />to the Board on April 25, 1994, May 2, 1994, May 9, 1994 and May <br />16, 1994. Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the <br />recomm ndations be accepted and the requests be approved. Mrs. <br />Manier seconded the motion which carried. <br />a.LYvL,�L,3 nmr mr'-mmu: <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. Manier, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and <br />carried, the following requests were referred to the appropriate <br />City d partments and bureaus for review and recommendation: <br />U' VIET NAM VETERANS TO CONDUCT 6TH ANNUAL P.O.W./M.I.A. <br />H STAGE FREEDOM MARCH - AUGUST 13 1994 <br />Mr. Bob Farkas, 68137 Lawndale Street, Edwardsburg, Michigan, <br />advised that in honor of all the Americans who are held <br />prisoner of war, missing in action or hostage, by foreign and <br />hostile nations, the Viet Nam Veterans announce the Sixth <br />Annual P.O.W./M.I.A., Hostage Freedom March, to be held in <br />honor of these most noble Americans. The March will be held <br />at 8:30 a.m. on August 13, 1993 in conjunction with LZ South <br />Bend. The March will begin at the state line, south of <br />Niles, Michigan, and proceed down Dixie Highway south to <br />Navarre Street. The March will then proceed west on Navarre <br />tc Main Street. Once on Main Street, the march will continue <br />s uth to Western Avenue, turning east on Western Avenue <br />a ound Jefferson to the entrance of Howard Park. <br />OF SLICE OF LIFE TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A FLORAL GARDEN <br />O THE N.W. CORNER OF WESTERN AVENUE AND CHAPIN STREET <br />Ms. Geraldine Griffin, Executive Director, Slice of Life, <br />Saint Joseph's Health Center, 305 South Chapin Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, advised that Slice of Life is an organization <br />dedicated to the positive development of youth in our <br />community. They are located at 313 South Chapin Street. One <br />of the goals is to promote respect for commitment to and <br />betterment of ourselves, family and community. To compliment <br />their studies of the environment and to contribute their <br />efforts to the preservation and beautification of the <br />northwest side of South Bend, they request permission to <br />establish and maintain a floral garden on the northwest <br />corner of Western Avenue and Chapin Streets. This is a <br />co laborative effort with the staff members of Catholic <br />Ch rities, family members and neighborhood seniors who have <br />ag eed to lend their support, materials and expertise for <br />th s worthwhile project. <br />APPROVE PUBLIC PARKING LICENSE APPLICATION <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Manier and <br />carried the license application for Valley American Limited <br />Partnerships, 211 West Washington, Suite 1925, South Bend, <br />Indiana was approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's <br />office for issuance of a license. It was noted that favorable <br />recommendations were received from the Fire Department and the <br />Department of Code Enforcement concerning this application. <br />FILING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP OF LOTS REPORTS <br />Mr. Leszczynski indicated that the Department of Code Enforcement <br />has Sub itted one (1) list containing fourteen (14) City owned and <br />1 <br />r� <br />n <br />
