059 <br />PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION JULY 18, 2007 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:02 a.m. on <br />Wednesday, July 18, 2007 with President Jesusa Rodriguez. Board Members Juanita <br />Dempsey, Donald Alford, Patrick Cottrell and Bruce BonDurant were present. Also <br />present were Police Chief Thomas Fautz, Fire Chief Howard Buchanon and Board <br />Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13~' Floor County <br />' City Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Board members discussed the following item(s) from that list: <br />- Minutes <br />Mr. Bruce BonDurant noted that in the minutes of June 27, 2007, page 54, it <br />stated "Mr. Cottrell stated there was an error in the Minutes of June 6, 2007", <br />when it actually was Mr. BonDurant that noted the error. <br />- Reset Hearing -Police Department <br />Mr. Bodnar requested an Executive Session for 7:45 a.m. on August 10, 2007 <br />before the Tony Macik hearing. The Board requested an Executive Session of just <br />the Board members to discuss the Hearing, on August 15, 2007. It was agreed by <br />all present to vote to change the regular meeting of August 8, 2007 to August 15, <br />2007. It will be followed by an Executive Session for Board Members to discuss <br />their findings in the Tony Macik Hearing. No attorneys will be present. Mr. <br />Bodnar requested the Change of the Scheduled Meeting be added to the agenda. <br />- Emergency Medical Services Contract for University of Notre Dame Football Season <br />2007 -Fire Department <br />Mr. Bodnar stated this is basically the same contract that the Board signs every <br />year, with a slight adjustment of fees to compensate for the increased labor costs. <br />Mr. BonDurant questioned Chief Fautz whether the Police Department is <br />compensated for their Traffic Control efforts during the season. Chief Fautz stated <br />they have never been compensated by Notre Dame, thatthe increased revenue to <br />~. ~ ~: <br />the City of South Bend is considered compensation enough. Chief Fautz noted the <br />Police Department's hours and manpower amount to".;.approximately $119,000.00. <br />Mr. BonDurant stated he would like to'`see the Police Department compensated <br />for their expense. It was noted by all that the Police Department does an <br />exceptional job of controlling and moving traffic, in comparison to other cities. It <br />was noted that the City of Mishawaka benefits from the Notre Dame traffic also, <br />but does not provide Police support. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Rodriguez declared <br />the meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m. <br />BOARD OF <br />Donald L.
