REGULAR MEETING
<br />JUNE 9, 1997
<br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:34 a.m. on Monday, June 9,
<br />1997, by Board Member Carl P. Littrell, with Ms. M. Catherine Roemer present. Also present was
<br />Board Attorney Anne Brunel. Board Member James R. Caldwell was not present.
<br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the minutes of the regular
<br />meeting of the Board held on June 2, 1997, were approved.
<br />_PUBLIC HEARING TRANSIENT MERCHANT LICENSE - LEEPER PARK ART FAIR
<br />Mr. Littrell advised that this was the date set for the Board's Public Hearing concerning a Transient
<br />Merchant License, as submitted by Ms. Judy Ladd, 16200 Continental Drive, Granger, Indiana, to
<br />conduct the Leeper Park Art Fair at Leeper Park, South Bend, Indiana, on June 21 and 22, 1997, for
<br />the purpose of selling art works. Mr. Littrell stated that favorable recommendations have been
<br />received by the Police Department, Fire Department, Building Department and the Legal Department.
<br />As there was no one present representing Leeper Park Art Fair, upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell,
<br />seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the Public Hearing was tabled. Ms. Ladd became present, and
<br />upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell, seconded by Ms. Roemer, the public hearing was re -opened.
<br />Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the
<br />Application for a Transient Merchant License was approved.
<br />PUBLIC HEARING - TRANSIENT MERCHANT LICENSE - CREATION CONVENTIONS,
<br />INC.
<br />Mr. Littrell advised that this. was the date set for the Board's Public Hearing concerning an
<br />Application for a Transient Merchant License, as submitted by Ms. Fran Beultez, 411 North Central
<br />Avenue, Glendale, California, to conduct a Star Trek Convention at the Century Center, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, on June 22, 1997, from 12 noon until 10:00 p.m., for the purpose of selling science fiction
<br />related merchandise and apparel. Mr. Littrell stated that favorable recommendations have been
<br />received by the Police Department, Fire Department, Building Department and the Legal Department.
<br />Ms. Julie Nowak, Century Center, was present, and recommended approval. There being no one else
<br />present wishing to address the Board concerning this matter, the Public Hearing was closed.
<br />Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the Application
<br />for a Transient Merchant License was approved.
<br />OPENING OF BIDS - EIGHT_ -FIVE (85) MORE OR LESS, SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING
<br />APPARATUS - FIRE DEPARTMENT
<br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed bids for the above referred to equipment.
<br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of Notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County
<br />News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened and publicly read:
