BUJ <br />PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION APRIL 4, 2007 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:07a.m. on Wednesday, Apri14, <br />2007 with President Jesusa Rodriguez present. Board Members Juanita Dempsey, Donald Alford, <br />Patrick D. Cottrell and Bruce J. BonDurant were present. Also present were Police Chief Thomas <br />Fautz, Fire Chief Luther Taylor and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13`h Floor County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Board members discussed the following item(s) from that list: <br />- Minutes <br />There were no changes or corrections to the minutes of March 14, 2007. <br />- Special Police Commissions <br />Chief Fautz noted that there were two individuals being presented with Parking Properties <br />Special Police Commissions. <br />- Employees of the Month -January and February -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz stated that at this time he is requesting approval of two officers who exhibited <br />outstanding police work. Patrolman Paul Strabavy was instrumental in seven felony arrests, <br />four misdemeanor arrests, and several warrant arrests. While affecting these arrests, <br />Patrolman Strabavy has recovered over nineteen grams of cocaine and more than thirty-one <br />grams of marijuana, and also recovered a handgun. He issued over forty tickets during a two <br />week period. Corporal Phillip Herman was instrumental in the arrests of two dangerous <br />felons and the subsequent resolution of the two-man crime spree. <br />- Donation -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz noted that this was a generous donation to the Police Department's K-9 Unit for <br />the purchase of a ballistic vest for the newest patrol dog. Chief Fautz stated there are now <br />eight patrol dogs in the Department. <br />- Monthly Statistics -February -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz noted that all crime is down this year compared to last, except for murder rates. <br />- Promotions -Fire Department <br />Chief Taylor stated that the Fire Department is requesting the approval of three firefighters to <br />the position of Captain in Fire Suppression, and one for Captain/Paramedic in Emergency <br />Medical Services. <br />Retirement/Disability -Fire Department <br />Mr. Bodnar stated that the Fire Department is requesting approval of a Disability and <br />Retirement for Engineer Jeff Polanskey due to the on-the job back injury sustained by him. <br />Mr. Polanskey is unable to do his job, and has been on the Fire Department for nineteen <br />years, one year short of retirement requirements. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Rodriguez declared the meeting <br />adjourned at 8:18 a.m. <br />BOARD OF P AFETY <br />Jes a Rodriguez, <br />Donald L.
