~~ "'.~
G r
f
~-- '~ COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 28, 2009
Henry Davis, Jr., Chairperson, Community Relations Committee called the meeting to order at
3:46 p.m.
Committee Members Present: David Varner, Karen L. White, Ann Puzzello
Other Councilmember's Present: Timothy Rouse, Tom LaFountain
Other's Present: Mayor Steve Luecke, Rita Kopala, George Lane, Jerry Niezgodski, Tom Price,
Martha Lewis, Matt Seese, Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, John Voorde
Agenda: Bill No. 72-09 -Adding powers to Community Relations Committee
Chairperson Henry Davis with full Committee present began the hearing on Bill No. 72-09. As
primary sponsor of the bill Chairperson Davis explained its intent. The bill, he stated would create
a mechanism for better public dialogue among the Council, School Superintendent, School
Board, and private schools in the city. This would address a perceived disconnect between
schools and local government. Co-Sponsors Karen White and Ann Puzzello both voiced support
emphasizing the need and resultant benefits of collaboration and communication.
Hopefully the not less than two meetings a year by the committee inviting all stakeholders would
accomplish this.
Following brief comment Karen White motioned to send favorably. Councilmember Varner
seconded the motion and support from all followed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee at this time, Chairperson Henry
Davis, Jr., adjourned the meeting at 3:54 p.m.
Res ctfully Submitted,
Henry Davis, Jr., Chairperson
Community Relations Committee
