Re-inspections were up, however, this is <br />not unusual. One reason could be firefighters' vacation schedules. There being no further <br />discussion, the Monthly Statistical Analysis was accepted and filed. <br />ADOPT RESOLUTION NO. 44-2006 -SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION <br />PROCESS <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Cottrell, seconded by Mr. BonDurant and carried, the following <br />Resolution was adopted by the Board of Public Works: <br />RESOLUTION N0.44-2006 <br />1 <br />1 <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Fire Department has, for more than two decades, been <br />utilizing an application process whereby applicants are hired on the basis of their scores; and <br />WHEREAS, the Indiana legislature has amended I.C. 36-8-4-10 to give preferences to <br />the individuals who have lost a parent in the line of duty as an Indiana police officer or <br />firefighter. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, the South Bend Fire Department shall change the <br />preferences and enhancements as follows: <br />1. A war veteran. who has been honorably discharged from the United States Armed <br />Forces and who has passed all the tests shall receive a two (2) point enhancement <br />on a scale of 100. <br />2. An applicant who has passed all tests and mother or father died in the line of duty <br />while a sworn firefighter or municipal or county police officer in Indiana shall <br />receive a one (1) point enhancement. <br />3. A person who resided within the corporate limits of the City of South Bend at <br />least three (3) of the five (5) years prior to the date of the agility test (time in <br />military service excluded) shall receive a one (1) point enhancement. <br />4.
