REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 16, 2006 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the regular meeting at 9:16 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, <br />2006, with President Jesusa Rodriguez and Board Members Juanita Dempsey, Donald Alford, <br />Bruce J. BonDurant and Patrick D. Cottrell present. Police Chief Thomas Fautz and Board <br />Attorney Thomas Bodnar were not present. Also present were Uniform Division Chief Darryl <br />Boykins, Fire Chief Luther Taylor and Assistant City Attorney Cheryl Greene. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13~' Floor, County Ciry <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS <br />Mr. Cottrell made a motion that the minutes of the Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, <br />and Regular meetings of the Board held on July 26, 2006, along with a Special Meeting of July <br />31, 2006 be approved, with corrections. Ms. Dempsey seconded the motion which carried. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />POLICE SELECTION PANEL AUGUST 16.2006 <br />The Police Selection Panel recommended that Mr. Brad Allen Rohrscheib and Mr. David <br />Lawrence Hockenhull be accepted for employment as probationary police officers with the South <br />Bend Police Department, effective August 28, 2006. They have met the requirements of the <br />application process of the South Bend Police Department. They both will be attending the <br />Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana from September 11, 2006 to <br />December 22, 2006. Upon a motion made by Mr. BonDurant, the above referenced gentlemen <br />were accepted for employment with the South Bend Police Department, effective August 28, <br />2006. Mr. Cottrell seconded the motion which carried. <br />SWEARING IN OF POLICE OFFICERS <br />- BRAD ALLEN ROHRSCHEIB <br />- DAVID LAWRENCE HOCKENHULL <br />Mr. John Voorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office to these <br />-~ gentlemen. The Board wished them well in their endeavors. <br />EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -CORPORAL BAYNE BENNETT <br />Corporal Bayne Bennett was selected as Employee of the Month. The award is to recognize <br />officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have demonstrated <br />actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in <br />support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Chief Boykins noted this <br />officer was instrumental in solving A burglary. There being no further discussion, the <br />recommendation was accepted and filed. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT -JULY 006 <br />President Rodriguez indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members of the <br />Board, the statistical analysis report for the month of July 2006 as submitted by the Police <br />Department would be accepted for filing. MAY AND <br />JUNE 2006 <br />Captain Wanda Shock, Director of Training, South Bend Police Department, submitted to the <br />Board a written Quarterly Report for Specialized Training for the period of April through June <br />2006.
