REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 16, 2006 The Board of Public Safety met in the regular meeting at 9:16 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, with President Jesusa Rodriguez and Board Members Juanita Dempsey, Donald Alford, Bruce J. BonDurant and Patrick D. Cottrell present. Police Chief Thomas Fautz and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar were not present. Also present were Uniform Division Chief Darryl Boykins, Fire Chief Luther Taylor and Assistant City Attorney Cheryl Greene. The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13~' Floor, County Ciry Building, South Bend, Indiana. APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS Mr. Cottrell made a motion that the minutes of the Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, and Regular meetings of the Board held on July 26, 2006, along with a Special Meeting of July 31, 2006 be approved, with corrections. Ms. Dempsey seconded the motion which carried. POLICE DEPARTMENT POLICE SELECTION PANEL AUGUST 16.2006 The Police Selection Panel recommended that Mr. Brad Allen Rohrscheib and Mr. David Lawrence Hockenhull be accepted for employment as probationary police officers with the South Bend Police Department, effective August 28, 2006. They have met the requirements of the application process of the South Bend Police Department. They both will be attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana from September 11, 2006 to December 22, 2006. Upon a motion made by Mr. BonDurant, the above referenced gentlemen were accepted for employment with the South Bend Police Department, effective August 28, 2006. Mr. Cottrell seconded the motion which carried. SWEARING IN OF POLICE OFFICERS - BRAD ALLEN ROHRSCHEIB - DAVID LAWRENCE HOCKENHULL Mr. John Voorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office to these -~ gentlemen. The Board wished them well in their endeavors. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -CORPORAL BAYNE BENNETT Corporal Bayne Bennett was selected as Employee of the Month. The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Chief Boykins noted this officer was instrumental in solving A burglary. There being no further discussion, the recommendation was accepted and filed. FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT -JULY 006 President Rodriguez indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members of the Board, the statistical analysis report for the month of July 2006 as submitted by the Police Department would be accepted for filing. MAY AND JUNE 2006 Captain Wanda Shock, Director of Training, South Bend Police Department, submitted to the Board a written Quarterly Report for Specialized Training for the period of April through June 2006.
