f " ~' <br />t Y <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />3ULY 26, 2006 <br />ACCEPT AND FILE DONATIONS TO SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Fautz advised the Board of generous donations made to the South Bend Police <br />Department by Mr. Darwin Enders. Mr. Enders provided `gun safety' stickers with the <br />positive message from "Eddie Eagle" and should be a good teaching tool for youngsters. <br />Mr. Enders has been a friend to the South Bend Police Department for many years. His <br />friendship is appreciated and he is to be commended for his continued efforts with the <br />LaPorte, Indiana, County Historical Steam Society, Inc•. There being no further <br />discussion, the donations were accepted and filed. ' <br />EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH RECOGNITION -MAY 2006 -PATROLMAN <br />:If1SON KING <br />Tn a letter to `the Board, Chief Thomas Fautz recognized Patrolman Jason King, as <br />Employee of the Month for May 2006. The award recognizes officers, civilian <br />employees and volunteers within the Police Department who have demonstrated actions <br />noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in <br />support of community policing efforts with the citizens of the City of South Bend. Chief <br />Darryl Boykins further stated Patrolman King is a new officer.: There being no further <br />discussion, the Employee of the Month Recognition was accepted and filed. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT -JUNE 2006 <br />President Rodriguez indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members <br />of the Board, the statistical report for the month of 3une 2006 as submitted by the Police <br />Department would be;:accepted for filing. The Board of Public Safety will <br />schedule a Special Meeting to discuss the matter. Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, <br />seconded by Mr. BonDurant and carried, the letter of request in the above matter was <br />approved. <br />~TRE DEPARTMENT <br />LG7'TER OF UNDERSTANDING -LOCAL NO. 362 -PROMOTION PROCESS <br />Chief Luther Taylor submitted to the Board a letter of understanding between the City <br />aild Local No. 362, arising out of meetings of the South Bend Fire Department Labor <br />Management Committee, with respect to a Promotion Process: The Promotion Process _ <br />has been designed to select the individuals best qualified to be promoted to the rank of <br />Fire Suppression Captain and Paramedic Captain. The system will have a testing <br />component including a.,written exam, oral interview .and. a'scenario ,based exercise of <br />which will be used to compile a score for the applicant. Chief Taylor commented that it <br />is a proud moment to provide this document. There being no further discussion, upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Alford, seconded by Mr. Cottrell and carried, the Letter of <br />Understanding was accepted and approved. <br />
